Functional Summary
The Milling Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the milling machine.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
- Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
- Knowledge to load trucks correctly; keep loads centered and not over load the trucks
- Follow grades, run slope, and watch and mark manholes and valves
- Have a high level of situational awareness and keep look out for other workers and equipment in the immediate area; work together with ground crew to maintain the safety of all employees
- Operate other heavy equipment and other construction related duties as required.
Safety and Teamwork
- Promote, execute and adhere to the company's safety policy, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
- Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others.
- Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees to exchange information and gather ideas.
- Have a high level of situational awareness and keep look out for other workers and equipment in the immediate area; work together with ground crew to maintain the safety of all employees
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED but not required
- Must be able to maintain a valid driver's license
Work Experience
- Minimum 2-3 years' experience within the road construction industry
- 1 to 3 years' experience operating a milling machine is required
Technical Knowledge
- Knowledge of milling machine and other heavy equipment
- Knowledge of paving industry, road construction materials, road construction processes, and industry requirements.
- Understanding of computerized controls and electronics
Working Conditions
- Out of town travel might be required
- Available to work day shifts, night shifts, and weekends as needed
- Overtime as required
- Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
- Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
- Must comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.
- Proper PPE is required at all times.
